What Is Osteopathic Medicine?Osteopathic medical training contains the same basic course work as the traditional (referred to as allopathic) medical training with added focus on the whole body as an integrated working system. This training afforded Dr. Padgett the same credentials and training as his M.D. colleagues, including the ability to prescribe medications. In addition, he learned to incorporate manual osteopathic manipulation, when appropriate, to relieve various pains and heal illnesses, with a special focus on joints, bones, nerves, and muscles, in order to more effectively alleviate pain and discomfort.
